Why Early Childhood Experiences Actually Matter When people think about childhood, they sometimes act like it’s just a phase you grow out of. But the more I’ve learned about child development, the more I realize that early childhood isn’t just a stage — it’s the foundation for everything. The way adults respond to children in their early years really does shape who they become. It affects how they handle emotions, how they trust people, and even how confident they feel trying new things. For example, Jean Piaget believed that children don’t think the same way adults do. They aren’t just “smaller versions” of us. In the early stages, especially during the preoperational stage, children see the world mostly from their own perspective.
